I still remember the first time I was berated as an entrepreneur via an email. It was several years ago.
Someone was really giving me a tough time. I don’t even remember what it was about but I can remember clear as a bell how they were giving me the 3rd degree for some things that we had said in an email.
It was amazing.
This person took 15-20 minutes (or maybe even longer) to write this long, extended email saying how they didn’t agree with what we were saying.
It was then that I learned one of the most important facts that you will deal with as an entrepreneur.
Yes, you will be criticized.
Yes, people will disagree with you.
And, yes, people will say very unflattering things about you.
And guess what?
There’s nothing you can do about it.
See, until you are criticized, then you aren’t really getting on the radar. It is impossible to have an impact on a lot of people without making some of them upset. Think about the successful entrepreneurs that you know. They all are criticized both publicly and privately. Its just part of being a success.
You will attract some people and you will repel some others.
And what do you need to do when you are criticized?
In fact, jump up and down and get really excited about it. Because that means you are now having an impact.
Because having people complain is all a part of the business.
So, get out there and make your message heard. And, when you get criticized… which you will… take it in stride and celebrate it.
Doing so will help you stay the course when the going gets tough.
