dry Jan = worst Jan?

We finally made it through January!

In all seriousness, I think this was the worst January in years for me!

Usually one who prides himself on being positive, I was sick for 1/2 of the month, and had two different trips while not feeling well which is always hard.

BUT…

I did do a DRY January with no alcohol.

Maybe that was the problem?

Hang on, I gotta get a drink…

Let’s just say that I’m glad January is over and done.

Bring on February and the month of love!

MARKETING TIP
Evergreen Assets

We chatted briefly about this fantastically powerful concept last week.

The idea is to have some tool or marketing process that actually works over an extended time period.

One of my favorites is on the site of client and friend, Amy Barnhart…

ScreenShot20170202at92000AM.png

This will show you her video sales letter or VSL.

Just a fancy way of saying a video designed to elicit a purchase – much like an informercial online.

While she has made some tweaks, changes and edits, it has fundamentally remained very much the same as it has been for several years.

And has brought in more than 7 figures in sales!

This is a prime example of an evergreen marketing asset for her business.

The best part is that is goes to work, 24/7/365 without needing to take time off or a break.

Do you have any of these for yourself?

Can you create any evergreen marketing assets?

2 MONTHS

One of the things we do in our 8 Week Business Growth Master Class is help you create Evergreen Marketing Assets.

We go through the Triple Double Blueprint in detail during this 2 month Master Class

triple_double_blueprint.jpg

My promise to you…

If you want to make more progress in your business in the next 8 weeks than in the previous year, then you need to join us.

Email back to get the details!

INFINITE OPTIONS

Something to think hard about is all of the OPTIONS that your prospects have today.

There are literally 1000’s of channels of TV, Netflix, Podcasts, Magazines, Twitter Feeds, etc, etc.

It is HARD to get the attention of your ideal prospects.

And, once you do, often times people are bored so quickly that they don’t say engaged.

Marketing has changed.

Now you need to educate AND entertain your prospects.

And you sure as heck better not commit marketing sin #1…

Being BORING.

keepcalmanddontboremetodeath1.png

This is truly one of the worst things that you can do in your marketing.

And really in your business.

How can you keep your clients and prospects engaged?

Make it FUN to hear about you.

Share something personal about you, or your team, or your team’s dog.

Make yourself HUMAN and APPROACHABLE.

Everyone expects a good product & service (and make sure to over-deliver here) but when it comes to keeping people’s attention, try to do something of interest to keep ’em engaged.

QUOTE OF THE DAY

ScreenShot20170202at92554AM.png
I hope you have a very successful day.

slow DOWN please

Seriously, why can’t people in SoCal drive in the rain?

It’s not hard people, just slow down a bit and put down the cell phone.

Remember the old hydroplaning video they showed in driver’s ed?

hydroplane1.jpg

I went thru driver’s ed in the 80’s and they were still showing this same video from the 60’s.

(in marketing-speak, we could call this an evergreen asset!)

Do you have any ‘evergreen’ assets in your business?

They are those things that work well for you… year-end and year-out.

Well, it’s worth trying to get some of those for you and your business.

We’ll discuss that more next week!

And regarding the rain?

Don’t worry, it probably won’t rain for another 12 months!

MARKETING TIP
You Can Change It

Today I want to share a story about one of our members, Kathleen Schmitt (also known as ‘Kat’).

She competed in and won our Marketing Contest last week.

And did so against two other stellar presentations by the dynamic podcasting duo of Matt Wolfe & Joe Fier and Dr. Ben Ramos with his brand-new (and already successful) chiropractic business.

MarketingContest1.jpg

All of the contestants won a free infrared sauna treatment from Eco Chateau (highly recommended if you haven’t been there before) and a copy of our guest speaker’s book, The Habit Factor (also excellent!).

Kat of course won a trophy and a $100 prize but all 4 of them did an amazing job.

Now…

The best tip Kat gave was buried in one of her slides.

It was super powerful!

And I want to share it with you…

katstory.jpg

Now, seriously, who does she think she is?

Claiming that she is a world renowned anything?

And doubling her fees?

Ludicrous!

Who would think of doing such a thing??

Yet…

That’s exactly the best thing that she could have done!

Without ‘approval’ from anyone else, any government entity, or any organization…

She made two very key mindset shifts.

She completely changed the “what” she is doing in her business…

Shifting & changing her title & positioning…

From Graphic Designer

to

World Renowned Designer and Artist

And…

She took her fees and did a big, fat, 2x to them.

The best part?

She’s already seeing great results from these shifts and is already attracting some big, international clients!

Kudos to Kat!

It all began with stepping out of her comfort zone a little bit and trusting the process.

Hopefully this inspires you to maybe do the same for yourself!

By the way…

The recording will be live in the membership website later today where you can listen to all 3 of the contest speakers from last week – it is DEFINITELY worth watching these if you didn’t see them live! (or even if you did to watch them again!)

8 WEEKS

If you’re inspired by Kat, then you too might want to go through the 8 Week Business Growth Master Class coming up.

Kat just finished going through it and it’s something that helped her dramatically grow in her business.

We’ll be going through the Triple Double Blueprint in detail during this 2 month Master Class

triple_double_blueprint.jpg

My promise to you…

If you want to make more progress in your business in the next 8 weeks than in the previous year, then you need to join us.

DOG DAYS

Wait a second here…

We clean up his poop.

We feed him.

We rub his belly.

We hold him every day.

Who exactly is the boss here??

skylarbedhead.jpg

Skylar, the world’s luckiest dog with another hard afternoon at the office.

Skylar the dog is sporting the new ‘bed-head’ look, a very cool January fashion statement…

Vegas Baby

Just got back from a very short trip to Las Vegas for a trade show for the target company I’m invested in. The SHOT show is the biggest show of it’s kind in the world for the firearms industry.

Lots of very interesting things to see and by far the coolest two people I met…

IronMan.jpg.

Most booths just had the normal set up but this booth paid these two ‘actors’ to get dressed up so attendees could get their pictures taken.

Very fun and drove a lot of extra attention to their booth.

Now what did Iron Man have to do with what they sell?

Absolutely nothing!

Sometimes you don’t even need a direct relation to use an attention getting technique like this for you or your business.

Sometimes thinking outside the box can make a big difference in GETTING ATTENTION which is a KEY GOAL to any successful marketing campaign.

MARKETING TIP
Go Where They Are

One of the most interesting marketing concepts is to be where your prospects are already hanging out.

Everyone that you want to work with already on Twitter?

Guess where you should be.

Every ideal prospect of yours already on Facebook?

Might want to try marketing there.

But one thing I saw in Vegas is advertising at an entirely new level.

Now, at one of the hotels in Vegas, you can’t get away from advertising even when you’re in the bathroom.

This is actually a television that is sitting on the top of a sink!

SinkTV.jpg

I thought I had seen advertising everywhere, but this was a new one.

A good question to ask… and try to get specific…

Where are your customers and how can you best reach them?

QUOTE FOR THE DAY

yodaquote.jpg

The Ole’ South

Just got back from a trip to Tennessee to see my parents.

I think I’m related to half of the state, and my mom is always reminding me that I’m 1/2 southern. (and to never forget that by the way)

And, apparently they thought that I brought snow with me from California because the got the first real snow storm in 3 years while I was there!

familyfarm.jpg

It was a very good trip and fun to see my aunt & uncle and my parents, and other cousins as well.

My mom unfortunately has Parkinson’s Plus disease and isn’t doing very well. Please keep her (Ann Evans) in your prayers if you pray – would be VERY appreciated 🙂

MARKETING TIP

 Tap Into Nostalgia

Have chatted about this before but everyone thinks back to the time they grew up as the “good old days” to some extent.

I’ve even seen it with people I know who are 20 reminiscing about the old times!

The car show did a great job this year having a ton of old, fun cars. Here are two of my favorites.

Me playing Magnum P.I. (don’t recognize this tiny little Ferrari 308 or the Magnum PI name? Google it, one of the most popular 80’s shows)

magnumpihenry.jpg

And, of course, the infamous General Lee from the Dukes Of Hazzard…

generallee.jpg

I had a client with a hearing aid company and he customized all of his marketing around Ronald Reagan and jelly beans.

Since his target market was older, most of them hand fond memories about the ‘Reagan years’ and his campaign was a huge success…

How might you use some old nostalgia in your marketing for your business?

QUOTE FOR 2017

oprahnewyear.jpg

Enjoy your week and Happy New Year!

Going OLD School

I felt like I was stepping back in time this Christmas…

My oldest daughter asked for a vinyl record player.

And my youngest daughter asked for a Polaroid camera.

Really!?

Yep!

Here’s my oldest, holding her Elvis water bottle and the record player in the background.

She is a HUGE Elvis fan and has been to Graceland 2 times now (and is planning a 3rd!).

ariannarecordplayer.jpg

Funny thing?

They both absolutely loved this old school Christmas!

I’d forgotten what a unique sound vinyl records have, but it was really cool to see them getting excited about scratchy sounding music and little Polaroid pictures 🙂

MARKETING TIP
Limit Choices

One of the coolest marketing things I saw over Christmas was the NEW Amazon store at UTC mall in La Jolla.

Have you seen this yet?

Funny how Amazon drives out all of the small bookstores…

Then decide to open one up themselves!

What they did was genius however, take a look at these pictures I snuck in just for you…

amazon1.jpg

amazon2.jpg

Notice anything … different?

Yep…

No books are facing spine out.

They are ALL facing front covers out.

With a great little blurb about the book on a card as well.

This was great marketing and a big lesson for all of us…

Offering a lot LESS product, but selling a LOT more.

This store was PACKED – I recommend a field trip to see one of these new stores yourself.

QUOTE FOR THE NEW YEAR

Enjoy your week and Happy New Year!

Fun photos & Jack Sparrow quote

Check out these pics from our amazing Marketing Summit on
Tuesday with almost 80 entrepreneurs in attendance.

So bummed that you missed it!

Our official photographer sponsor, Picture Bakery and
owner Sheryl Marie, snapped some great shots of the event…

http://www.picturebakery.com/Marketing-Summit-2016/i-6T6V9jD

So fun to see everyone kicking off 2016 with great camaraderie,
marketing & internet ideas, and networking.

We’ll have the recording online in the membership site in the next day or two.

Two quick items for you on this Thursday:

1. If you aren’t in the San Diego area, we are going to do our first
STREAMING live event for our February 23rd Marketing Summit.
There will be a nominal charge this first time as we work out the kinks.
Email back if you’re interested in ‘virtually’ attending next month!

2. I have exactly 1 spot left in my Mastermind Groups for 2016 as of
this morning. If you want a focused, small, intensive group of fellow
entrepreneurs to help push you towards more success in 2016, then
being in a small, local, monthly-meeting Mastermind group is THE
place to be. Please email back to get an application and see if you
might qualify.
NOTE: This is for established businesses looking to grow substantially
this year by improving the “5 people you associate most with”.

And a quote quote for this wonderful Thursday…

“The problem is not the problem.
The problem is your attitude about the problem.
Savvy?”

— Captain Jack Sparrow/Johnny Depp
from the Pirates of the Caribbean movie

Winter Growing up in Buffalo

Tons of snow where I grew up (Buffalo, New York) and Christmas was the best. An entire week of fun.

First Christmas and the Christmas lead up.

Then my birthday on the 28th.

Then right into the New Year celebration.

When we weren’t inside sipping hot cocoa, this is what we did in our very own back yard when I grew up…

Buffalo

Yep, we made an ice rink, in our own back yard!

And that is me, pushing my brother on a chair with his hockey stick in-hand. (most kids are actually born with hockey sticks permanently attached where I grew up)

My nephew still gets excited when I tell him about this because he is big into hockey.

Even though I’m quite a bit older now, I still absolutely love this time of year, although now, summer is a definite favorite (and a big reason why I live in San Diego, it’s almost like summer year-round!).

Something about warm temps & long days really appeals to me as I get older.

Last year around this time, I talked about this idea of having a focused destination.

Knowing precisely where you want to go, is often times the most important part of making sure you end up finally arriving there.

So, let’s just pretend for a moment that its is now December… 2016 (1 year from today).

What have you accomplished during 2016 to help you reach your goals?

What has gone extremely well?

And what have you changed?

Remember that all-important Einstein quote…

Einstein

Who exactly are your customers and what are they buying from you?
(hint, it’s not your product or service, they’re buying what that DOES for them.)

This idea, originally coined in the best selling book, Psycho Cybernetics, is that your mind is a “servo-mechanism”.

When you aim it, it will make the adjustments it needs to reach that desired destination.

Your goal isn’t to worry so much about HOW to get there, rather to focus on where THERE is… said another way, what, specifically, is your goal?

Keeping that goal top-of-mind sets you up like a guided missile.

You might get side tracked, but you will continue to adjust your course to finally arrive at your target.

Therefore, your job is to focus…. cheerfully I might add!

Focus on having a crystal clear goal, a destination, a point in the future where you want to go and head towards.

Merry Christmas

Growing up, this was always my absolute favorite time of the year.

Christmas time, lots of snow where I grew up (Buffalo, New York!) and an entire week of fun.

First Christmas, then my birthday on the 28th, then right into the New Year celebration. I still absolutely love this time of year, although now, summer is a definite favorite. Something about warm temps & long days really appeals to me as I get older!

Thanksgiving Goodness

What an amazing Thanksgiving!

Hope you were also able to eat your way thru football, family and fun yesterday.

Did you overeat at all? What was your favorite food?
Here’s what the turkey looked like right off the grill before we all started diving in…

If you haven’t already…

And before you ‘shop until you drop’ today…

List Out 10 Things You’re Thankful For

When I did that today I noticed something interesting.

One of the top things on my ‘thankful list’ was YOU.

Thankful for being able to hopefully bring a smile to your face.

Some marketing strategies to your business.

And…

A few more dollars to your bank account.
I sincerely hope you enjoy this holiday season.

We’re off to get the Christmas tree this weekend.
